Sports fans all over the world love to represent their teams, their players, their love for the sport. Some people wear a jersey to an event, some wear a hat around town, some put decals on their vehicles. But only those who truly love the sport, collect the memories and relics of the past and present.

Some people collect for themselves. Jerseys of yesteryear, Diecasts of the past, and old tickets from events they have been to. Others, create a masterpiece of art. Collecting everything they can, and displaying proudly.

Speaking to any collector of memorabilia, you will notice a trend. They all have a favorite. Whether it be an era, a certain person, team or event. Collectors and curators keep a theme.

Racing Idiot Trent, that's me by the way, collects Mclaren. Formula 1 and IndyCar. Between the Legos, trading cards, and clothing a fine collection in the making.

But what about those who have been collecting for years. Who truly personify the idea and lifestyle of a memorabilia collector? One member of Racing Idiot Nation, Wayne, reached out and let us in on his private collection. A collection that rivals that of some museums. A collection so long in the making, it's still "Under Construction"

One cold day in the racing offseason, Wayne reached out, invited us for beer and conversation. We obviously accepted. What we were welcomed by, blew us away.

A lifelong fan of racing, Wayne hasn't missed an Indy500 in 48 years. For those keeping track, that means every 500 since 1977. We were welcomed by the warm smiles of cardboard cutouts of Danica Patrick and Jeff Gordon. Sharing a "cheers" with Sam Hornish Jr., we stared in awe, of the history surrounding us.

With newspaper articles from the 90s and early 2000s on the wall, hats from every race team imaginable, some signed, some sweat stained from years of loyal wearing, and a personal favorite of mine, a tribute to the Lionheart, Dan Wheldon.

Looking around, it is obvious the theme is "Indy 500". Replicas of the Borg Warner trophy, a map of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a photo of Lewis Strang (The very first Indy500 pole sitter) staring at a layout of the track before it was built.

A collector by every meaning of the word, the collection isn't just bought. It is lived, it is earned. From working for a small race team in the early 90s, to networking with current race team employees, attending races, this collection was built of life experience. Every piece tells a story, and every story as unique as the last.

A piece of a racecar. Though the years have taken a toll on the memory, the signatures, team and car escaping, the piece of a racecar in the collection adding mystery, and personality. Tickets from previous races, showing where he has sat, pictures from every turn of the track. A crystal vodka bottle pagoda from Fuzzy's Vodka. An IMS bar mat.

This place is heaven. A race fans dream. Outfitted with TV screens to watch the race, why would we ever leave? Well, all good things must come to an end. Even private beer drinking tours.

But what about those other collectors? What else is there to collect? How do we get our collections so large? The world is full of those who love this sport. Find yourself a memorabilia guy, share and enjoy what they have. Drink a beer while talking about something that happened 30 years ago. Build your own personal museum.
